Package 18 Northern Mozambique is fast becoming one of Mozambique's premier tourist destinations. Northern Mozambique is a truly wild area where game roams without limitations from fences or park boundaries. Although animal sightings are sporadic, away from Pemba you can spot elephant, lion, hyena, leopard, wild hog, kudu, sable, buffalo, dyker, jackals, foxes, honey badgers and other small animals such as the world's second largest chameleon and bush babies that are common even in town. Divers are privileged to large game fish moving over the reef, occasional sunfish sightings, whale sightings August-October, four species of dolphin, an extensive variety of hard and soft coral, and countless different types of crustacea.
Gulado was only set up last year and offers diving in the Quirimba archipelago and various activities in the bush including elephant tracking and viewing, bird watching, and guided bush walks. The concept behind Gulado is Fair Trade Tourism, and part of the proceeds go towards their Social and Economic Regeneration Fund, which will finance various projects such as building a school, providing clean water and collecting information on biodiversity for the park.
