Gold and the history of Johannesburg are intertwined.  The discovery of gold in the 1890's let to a gold rush by prospectors from all over the world to the area now known as Johannesburg, in the province of Gauteng.  This package offers a perfect opportunity to spend a day seeing the city and surrounds, as well as Soweto,  This is an essential trip for anyone interested in the Miracle of Transformation that is South Africa. Approximately 15 km away from the center of Johannesburg comprises 63 square km where an estimated three million people live.
Affectionately known as "Kruger", the Park is a treasure chest of wonderment and has something to offer even the most seasoned traveler.  Kruger National Park is one of the most renowned wildlife reserves in the world, the oldest in Africa and covers 19000 sq km... 350 km north to south, and 60 km from east to west.  Nowhere else in the world will you encounter such diversity of animal and plant life.  Ecosystems with the Kruger are highly varied.  Six rivers fee the park, and area encompassing and astonishing 16 vegetation zones including 1,980 plant species and 300 tree species.  The best time to see game is during the winter months (April - September), as water is restricted to rivers and waterholes, where game congregates.  Visibility is also good,  Summer (October - March) is also lovely due to rains - everything is lush and green and babies abound!

Detail Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival at Johannesburg International Airport

Transfer to Park Hyatt, one of the most exclusive hotels in Rosebank, situated in the heart of a luxury residential and shopping area.  Bed and breakfast basis.

Relax at the rooftop pool or go for a workout at the health center

Day 2
After breakfast we take you on a 3-4 hours Soweto city tour where you will discover a city within a city - the largest black township in Africa, full of recent history.  You will also be treated to a "shebeen" lunch at a local restaurant.

Afternoon is free.

Transfer to the Johannesburg Airport

Arrival at Nelspruit Airport and Transfer to Hazyview

Book into Tanamera Lodge - nestled on the slopes of the Sabie River Valley, deep in the lowveld forest.  Tanamera offers luxurious accommodations and breathtaking scenery.  The chalets are surrounded by unspoiled indigenous bush with spectacular views ensuring a relaxing and peaceful stay.

Day 4

After breakfast you can join the guided river walks that the lodge has on complimentary offer, or book one of the various activities in the area... hot air balloon, quad biking, horse trails, white water rafting, or tour of Blyde River Canyon.

Day 5
Transfer to nearby Kruger National Park

Rhino Walking Safaris specializes in luxury walking safaris in 12,000 hectares of pristine bushveld in the only wilderness concession in the Kruger National Park.  Follow the elephants paths and rhino trails on foot through this environmentally sensitive area that offers the Big Five as well as diversity of fauna and flora.  Accommodation and service is of the highest quality.

Plains Camp has four African explorer-style tents nestled in the Acacia Knobthorn thicket, which overlooks the spectacular Timbitene plain with its abundant wildlife.  This 8 bed camp is built in authentic pioneer tradition and reflects the ambience of a 19th century naturalist's retreat.  An African book collection and antique treasures take you on a journey to a bygone era.

Rhino Post Camp is set under magnificent Tamboti trees and is built with natural materials - stone, wood, thatch and canvas - to give an authentic bush feel.  Each suite is decorated beautifully.  The bedroom and lounge areas offer wonderful views of the riverbed.  In the heat of the summer, cool off in the swimming pool and watch wildlife amble down to the waterhole for a midday drink.  At sundown, enjoy a cocktail in the comfort of the lounge with its extensive wine cellar, cozy fireplace and bar.

Kruger National Park is recognized as a malaria area.  Please consult your medical doctor prior to visiting South Africa.  DO bring mosquito spray, sunblock, hat and comfortable walking shoes.  A jacket in recommended during winter months (May - September) as the park can be cold.
